Determination of itaconic acid content in acrylonitrile-itaconic acid copolymer by organic element analyzer

Abstract：A method based on organic element analyzer was developed for determination of itaconic acid content in acrylonitrile-itaconic acid copolymer. The purity of samples was verified with methanol precipitation of sample dimethylformamide solution and burning, and the oxygen content was determined by useing organic element analyzer. Itaconic acid content of acrylonitrile-itaconic acid copolymer was calculated through oxygen content. The standard working curve was established by using benzoic acid, the mass of oxygen had good linear relationship with the response signal in the range of 30-1570 μg, the linear correlation coefficient was 0.999. The relative standard deviation of determination results was 1.9%(n=6), the standard recovery rate was 99.1%-100.5%. The method is simple, fast, high accurate and precise, which is suitable for determination of itaconic acid content in acrylonitrile-itaconic acid copolymer.
